God created boys and girls after His own image. No wonder we are the most beautiful and intelligent creatures on earth. Unfortunately, many youngsters tamper with their bodies in a bid to add to their beauty. More damages are done to youthful beauty that leads to sorrowful and regrettable adulthood. Miss Andressa Urach won second place in the 2012 Miss Bum Bum. Today she is confined to a wheel chair with large holes in her legs which beauty chemicals damaged. In her words, “I’m paying now for my vanity. I was extremely vain. Everything in search of perfection. But instead of making my body more beautiful, I ended up damaging it and making it ugly.” The ungodly craze after nudity, tattoo, hair and nail styles offend God who did a complete work in you. Artificial beauty fades fast like a vapor. Your body is the temple of God therefore, keep it pure inside and outside.

Challenge: Technology can neither create man nor perfect his beauty.

Prayer: Lord, I keep my body under control

Text: - 2 Samuel 18:23

A man who ran several kilometres about his city, was stopped by someone who asked where he was running to. He replied, “Nowhere! No purpose! No direction!” Many youngsters join the band wagon of moving people yet have no specific reasons for joining. Some even join a mob without any certain reasons. These confused and careless youths have no clear story to tell like Ahimaaz. Plan each day and always ask yourself “where am I going to? Why? What shall be my gains or losses?” By such self-examination, you will live a more meaningful life. Design a workable timetable to guide your daily activities. God has a purpose for each day and will reveal it, if we ask him in prayer. You will enjoy your daily living if you yield to godly teachings.

Challenge: God’s grace is for the humble.

Prayer: Lord, please guide and order my steps.

Text - 2 Corinthians 6:17

Many young people toe the line of crowd, even when they have the opportunity to step out of it. Abraham Lincoln, Sigmund Freud, Martin Luther King Jr., Galileo, Fred Hollows, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Caroline Chisholm, faced the temptation of being like everyone else but chose to pursue their own different dreams. They had the conviction that they could accomplish something great with their own lives, and so they dared to come out of the crowd. You can be like Samuel. He was lent to the Lord and he lived with Eli’s children: Hophni and Phinehas, who chose to throw righteousness, self-control, purity, and the fear of God overboard. Yet, he did not copy their bad examples but “…ministered before the LORD.” (1 Samuel 2:18). Remember that you alone, are responsible for what you make of your life. Others may deride and ridicule you, but press on and do not be intimidated by their actions.

Challenge: You are responsible for what you make of your life.

Prayer: Dear Father, give me the heart of Samuel as I face the challenges of life.

A Search the Scripture teacher once asked to know what her class were thankful for. One little girl replied, “My glasses.” She explained, “They keep my fellow girls from fighting me, and the boys from kissing me.” The girl saw the good and not the bad in her glasses, unlike many young people who have unthankful hearts because of their life situations. As Dale Galloway puts it, “Positive thinking is a form of thought which habitually looks for the best results from the worst conditions. It is always positive to look for something good; to expect the best for yourself even though things look bad. Dear friend, always consistently think positively about your life, being thankful for whatever circumstances you find yourself in. And remember that when you seek good, you will find it. Consciously make a decision to be appreciative for what you have got. In this way, you can rest assured that you will be on your way to greatness. Do not worry about what you do not have, but be thankful for what you do have.

Challenge: Always look for the best results from your worst conditions.

Prayer: O Lord, give me a thankful heart.

Zacchaeus heard of Jesus passing by his community. The crowd was much but he was small in stature. He ran and climbed up a tree. When Jesus saw his desire He stood and called him down. Jesus promised to go to his house, the neighbours who knew Zacchaeus began to murmur because he was a sinner. Immediately, Zacchaeus declared his repentance and restitution. Jesus was very happy with him. The neighbours could no longer speak evil of Zacchaeus. Salvation is not limited by your size but whosoever believes in Jesus shall be saved. Are you born again? Like Zacchaeus, do not delay. Confess your sins, forsake them and make restitution. Restitution is making amend for your past wrongs. Jesus will pardon you.

Challenge: Let not your present size and circumstances limit you.

Prayer: Lord, I confess my sin and I will make restitution.

On daily basis, people are faced with security and safety challenges, and, therefore, need protection. Like the chicken which needs protection from the hungry hawk, Christian youths need protection from the devouring claws of spiritual hawks. The hen that lives in a place infested with hawks always warns its chicks from straying away from its wings, because the hungry hawk always looks for the isolated chick to pounce on. Similarly, any Christian youth who strays away from the safe wings of the Lord to seek refuge under cultism and familiar spirits are exposed to the onslaughts of the devil. It is not only dangerous but also deceitful for you to live without the protection of the Lord in whose blood there is redemption. Avoid hiding under the falsehood of the world, because there is no protection in the use of things like fetish bands, charms, holy water or garment, magic rings or soaps. Be watchful and make Christ your refuge instead of allowing friends to deceive you into the false safety of the world.

Challenge: Avoid hiding under the falsehood of the world.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, be my refuge and cover me from the dangers of life.

If you want to succeed in life, the sure way is to spend time with the Lord in prayer. In other words, success in life easily comes to those who spend time on their knees seeking the face of God. Outside this, it is difficult to attain your life’s objectives. If you must progress, then you must pray. You certainly desire success in one area of your life or the other. To achieve this, you must not miss your quiet time- first thing very early everyday. This is a solitary period during which you commune with the Lord in prayer, you study and meditate on the Bible. Whenever you pray, God hears your voice and is ready to answer you. As you pray for success, remember that the prayer of a sinner is an abomination to God. Therefore, you must make yourself right with Him today.

Challenge: Success in the life of a Christian youth is not a game of chance.

Prayer: Give me the wisdom to observe a daily routine with God in charge.

“A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name�

Genesis 28:7 tells of Jacob’s obedience to his father and mother. While Esau’s lifestyle brought grief to his parents, Jacob’s obedience comforted them. God commands, “Honour thy father and thy mother; that thy days may be long upon the earth which the Lord thy God giveth thee”, (Exodus 20:12). Yes, long life, prosperity and peace are the portion of youths who obey and honour their spiritual and biological parents. Jacob prospered and his children possessed the Promised Land which flows with milk and honey. Do you obey your parents and elders? Obedience is the key to prosperity, peace and promotion. The joy of your parents abound when you walk in the way of holiness. Their prayer for your progress and prominence will come to pass. Covet your dad’s and mum’s prayer by good works. God is our overall father. Obey his word and His eternal blessings shall be yours.

Challenge: The prayers of your parents can make or mar your future.

Prayer: Make me an obedient youth, O Lord.

No matter how exalted one may be, one could be destroyed by pride. A colonel was posted to a new station at the time there were only landlines. With his office line, he always pretended to speak his boss at the headquarters. When there was a knock on his door one day, he invited his visitor in and lifted the receiver from the cradle and started talking. He dropped the line after feigning he had been talking with his general. “That was the GOC,” he informed the visitor, and asked what he could do for him. “I came to connect your telephone, sir,” replied the sergeant. Do you know that pride brought the colonel low? After reading this article, check your life, your ways, and your words before you go out today. Pray God to take away any trace of pride from your ways. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time” (1 Peter 5:6).

Challenge: Pride goeth before a fall.

Prayer: Let me walk in humility, o Lord, in every situation of my life.
